I know how to drive a manual.... just never done it, that's all.

As with most things, theory is a bit different than practice, although not horribly so with driving manual.

But if you feel that strongly against it, that is fine.

I figure if I can play drums, I can figure it out lol.

You would never let go of a bass drum pedal like you would let out a clutch. lol.

That would actually be the high hat pedal, which is similar, open and closed.

I bet it doesn't feel like an engine revving up when you release the high hat, though.

No I guess not... and I suppose it would be backwards anyway (you lift to release the high hat instead of depressing to release the clutch).

No, you had it right. Releasing the clutch pedal to engage it is the hard part.
