VVT-I controller?

does anyone know anything about a VVT-I controller compatible with the 1zz?

i know camcon makes a controller, but i don't know too much about it.
does anyone here have one or know if it would be compatible?

they make a vvt-i controller? I certainly didn't know that, so what does it do or how does it work? VVT-i controller noob here hehehe

Just take a peek at NewCelica.org and MatrixOwners.com - they both have good discussions on the CAMCOM controller and what to expect in return. ScionLife also has a good discussion started on this as well. Just search for it - lots of info.

Esentially - it is a piggy air/fuel and VVT computer. AFC portion (controls air/fuel ratios - like E-Manage) and VVT-i timing signals are intercepted and new values fed into the OEM ECU. You have +/- 20deg control over the VVT-i and +/- 20% fuel control. For a round $400 or less - pretty decent controller. Big selling point is the VVT-i control (site also says VTEC, but sadly will not control VVTL-i in Toyotas - completely different control structure).

Dynos have reported as much as 10-12WHP gains (2ZZ-GE), 1ZZ-FE dynos show little smaller gains (~7WHP). Still pretty decent for a black box. Note that it really starts to shine when you couple it with bolts ons (intake/exhaust/etc.) - but has to be tuned. Don't expect it to work out of the box and make power - adjusting the VVT-i portion eats up a ton of tuning time. If you don't have access to a dyno - tuning in the street is possible with a wideband O2 sensor and sometype of sensor monitoring software (some of the more advanced OBD-II scanners have these).

There have also been reports of the Toyota ECU rejecting the signals from the CAMCON. Not sure what years or models it affects - but something to keep your eye on.

ive heard the camcon is rejected only on 02+ model celicas. and i think also for 03+ corollas.
