Engine Wierd Problem

Wierd Problem

Ok, i'm new to forum but not new to the meets in socal i'm not sure where to post this but seemed like a good idea to post here.
Have a 06 corolla s and today i had a problem.

Was backing up then put it into Drive to pull into a spot, but the car would not shift. It felt like it got stuck in neutral and I started rolling backwards. The pedal brake didn't work but I was able to hit it into Park and pull the E-brake.

I unhooked the battery and reset the system and it worked after, but I have no idea why it happened in the first place.
Does anyone have an idea?

Jeff! great you can make it. Well recently there was a similar problem with someone else. I dont know if it will be the same but read up.

Yea, i saw that thread, its a little similar, but my car wouldn't shift at all no matter what i did.
