$2 tweeter fix for 6 speaker system

    got this from http://www.corolland.com/cgi-bin/corolla.pl?read=15272

For those of you with a stock 6-speaker setup on the 2003, you may have been disappointed with the high frequency performance of this system. There's good bass response but virtually no highs.

    The solution is very simple:

NOTE: PERFORM THIS MODIFICATION WITH THE STEREO OFF!

    1) Go to Radio Shack and buy 2 capacitors, part number 272-0999. They are $1 each and are non-polarized capacitors.

    2) Remove the speaker cover near the mirror by gently pulling the top of the tweeter cover away from the door. There's a hooked piece attached to the bottom of the enclosure and this engages with an opening in the door. The cover will come off at the top and then can be completely removed by swinging the enclosure down and then out.

    3) There's a capacitor mounted to a small terminal strip on the tweeter. It's the 2 connections on the right hand side of this small strip. Solder the Radio Shack Capacitor in parallel with this existing capacitor. There's no polarity so it doesn't matter which end goes to which.

    4) Test the system and if you're satisfied replace the tweeter cover.

That's all there is to it! You'll find the sound quality has dramatically improved.

FYI: The speakers in the door are 6" (as likely 8 ohm) and the rear deck speakers are 6"x9", 8 ohm.

Nice to know, but for me the stock radio sounds like sh***** but I have a CE model (only 4 speakers).

BTW, the front speakers are 6½ not 6"

What this mod is doing is increasing the capacitance in-line with the tweeter to lower the crossover frequency. Tweeters are designed to handle only very high frequencies (typically 3kHz and up) and have small voice coils since they don't end up getting a lot of power delivered to them. By reducing the crossover point, you increase the power dissipated in the voice coil (heat) and have a much greater chance of burning out the tweeter. If you do this mod, be prepared to replace your tweeters at some point if you like it loud.

All stock speakers in the car are non-standard - the fronts are 4 ohms and the rears are 6. The fronts are best replaced with 6.5 inch drivers and the backs are close to 6 by 9.

Don't do this if you are using aftermarket front speakers or planning to replace them soon. It's only good for STOCK system.

    Webmasta33,
Can you take some photo's of the cruise control unit on the steering wheel as we don't have cruise control at all, is there anyway you can send me a electrical wiring diagram on how is your wired up from factory?.
As i was going to try to import the parts and installed the factory version of this cruise control as i am a electrician and wirng it up is not a problem apart for how the cruise control unit interfaces with the ECU.
I also need to see what the unit look like under the bonnet can you help me with this please?.
Are you interested in export the cruise control kit to me?.
    Cheers Drew
