ok i dont have my corolla anymore but on my other car when i turn on the radio it makes a loud noise. similar to static. it also makes wierd scratchy and static noises when i turn it up loud but only sometimes so the speakers are good. all the wires look good. is it a power or ground thing or could i have a bad hu. it is a pioneer some cheap model it came with the car. any help would be great. i have never had this problem with another hu.

I installed a pioneer HU in my girlfriends car and it gets that scratchy noise when it is turned loud. I did all the installation, which is fine, but I did buy the HU used. that is the only possible answer I can think of is that there is a problem with the HU. All speakers were brand new.

its just noise.. its very common if you are running your speakers thru a amp. Make sure your power wire to the amp is not in parallel with the spekaer wires. I suggest running them down different sides of the car if they are running down the same side. Another thing u can do is buy a Ground Loop isolater.. This alone will normally rid about 60% of the problems. Give it a try

I dont think that is the problem. What you are explaining is more like a whinning noise when you step on the gas pedal. That is a common problem for people who use cheap rca wires or wired the rca wire down the same side as the power wire, or give the amp a bad ground.

From the what poster is saying it is more of a stactic sound. Can you go more in detail like how it sound. Are you sure you are not clipping speaker, like when you turn it up you hear a popping sound

OK first the noise is more static. it may be clipping not sure what that is. it does it wheni turn up the volume on the hu. i do not have any amps hooked up and the speakers are factory. i think it is not getting enough power but all the wires look fine. i may try a new power direct from the battery to see if that helps. i have done many stereo installs and never got this sound before. or it could be just a bad hu and i will need to buy a new one.

check your power and ground are the basics and my cousin had this problem before in his car and a new headunit fixed it also.
