hmm, i can't really say anything about the cooling benefits regarding the vented hoods -only the fact it looks cool (just my opinion) and that it costs a bit more.

i have a 2001 corolla. my stock hood was waaaay heavier than my vis invader hood. i mean the stock hood is carry-able. i'm strong enough to lift it around and about, but compared to the CF... i dunno. i don't know what the exact weight specs are of either of the hoods. IMO there IS a substantial difference in weight. hmmmm what's a good analogy???

you're simply taking off weight. ever notice your car launch off faster when you have a close to empty tank? i mean 10 gallons of liquid... have you ever carried a 5 gallon bottle of water (sparklets)? that's heavy. 2 times that is almost the weight of a full tank of gas. but i'm not saying that your stock hood weighs as much as 10 gallons of liquid.

ever seen a suburban tow a loaded trailer? yeah... not a fast SUV anymore. but take off that heavy trailer, and those suburbans can haul!

ever noticed how much harder engine works and more gas you use if you're transporting 2 or more people in your car? then did you feel a difference in pickup speed when driving solo?

IMO, the lighter your car the better.

imagine this, you're in the army, it's 120 degrees in the deserts of afghanistan. who would be more comfortable: you carrying 40 lbs of supplies on your back or your buddy carrying only 20 lbs of supplies on his back??

i'm crazy when it comes to these visuals... just get the damn hood!

one more thing, i'm looking at some scion XA pics.... there isn't much hood compared to a corolla which is why your friend saw only a 3lbs weight loss.. but are you sure it's a CF hood? maybe it's fiberglass... again, there's isn't much hood on an XA. but that's just my opinon.

no, they're not worth the cost. you'll just have to deal with it. they're expensive. i know what you mean when it comes to costs. i felt a bit guilty and pissed at myself handing over $400 for my hood. me and my greedyness

    carbon fiber hood worth it?

I know carbon fiber hoods look nice but are they worth their cost? My friend just got one for his xA and it's nice but he said he only saved 2-3 pounds of weight. Anyone with a corolla carbon hood can tell me how much weight they saved? that and for those with vented hoods, do you guys notice any cooling benefits?

btw, are you driving a prizm?
Somebody tried it before, corolla hood wouldn't fit prizm. Unless you change the fenders, headlights, and bumper all together.

is it really not possible to put a corolla hood on a prizm... i was measuring out my friends and everything seems ok just that the front where the front grill meets the hood is different. the head lights are basically the same shape where they meet the hood just that the corolla's lights are more pointed. oh well i'll take better measurements next time i see him.

still not sure if it's worth getting though... i mean if i do go ahead and do the 02 conversion then i'd go carbon hood... just not sure if the 500 could be spent better somewhere else like toward pistons or something

It's possible, just some little thing here and there doesn't match 100%.
Stock prizm hoods are longer then the corollas stock hood.

what mod do you have in your car now?
if you want "go fast", get a cold air intake and get a cat back. I believe it's the most you can get from $500.

no safty comprimised . structure yes , but its just sheet metal anyway.

i hope no one is tryin to drag race in a corolla , cause there not geared for it . corolla's true potential is in the curves on the track . this is wear the light weightness comes in handy and hella stiff suspension that is stock. why you think your rolla pulls so good outta the turns ? gearing , lose a little weight , youll be amazed.

oh yeah i like your rolla looks like my rolla's little brother.

    i made my cai

the best way to shave weight and have nearly the same weight loss effect is cutting the webbing out of your trunk and hood . dont let anyone sit on your hood though.

i think the price for carbon is exactly that , carbon . it all depends on your taste. and your wallet.

I wouldn't get rid of anything to save weight if it compromised safety and or stucture. It won't make your car that much faster anyways. You would need to take out 100 lbs just to get your car 0.1 faster in the quarter mile. It's not worth it.

The "chrome" long runners longs like it has a better header design then the OBX. Longer runner= better.
    Don't know about MimoUSA.

I've got the OBX aka Forza header and it performs well. I noticed a top end gain and smoother power across the powerband. I don't know about MimoUSA or any of those EBAY headers. They seemed kind of shady. There's not much info on them. A few members here also have the same OBX header like me and there are no problems.

Not always. It depends where you want the power to be at. Longer usually means more top end whereas shorter is for low end.

You only need to cut a little notch since the stock header had a crushed indent to fit with the exhaust pipe. It's not hard to do at all. Believe it or not, there is plently of room to take out and install the header from above. I didn't believe it either until I tried it. I have a lot of pics. Maybe I'll post them later. I have some pictures on my old post where I reviewed and installed the header. http://vvti.net/forums/showthread.p...ht=forza+header

i only have the 4afe , but i got the 1.8 header from ebay , ive had it about a year , it has a thick ass flange (like1/2") and the primaries are pretty long and well constructed , the welds are good , and the product is stainless steel , the recommendations i have is when you get it ask the guy to include 2 packs of gaskets or get your own fel pros. i got mine from a guy in washington state , for like 80.00 shipping included.

the reason i got the 1.8 header is because the heads are th same on both motors , the 1.8 is a taller motor , so when that header is appliedto the 1.6 , it keeps the header a little furthe from the oil pan , thus helping with cooler oi. i have not had the first problem w/ ground clearence.

oh yeah and there 4-2-1 not 4-1
