FT-EV Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)




While Hybrid Synergy Drive remains Toyota's long-term core powertrain technology, we continue to develop other sustainable transportation alternatives—including Electric Vehicles (EVs). In fact, we've sold or leased more than 1,900 EVs around the world since the late 1990's. And, in 2012, we plan to launch a battery-electric vehicle, perfect for urban commuters.

The prototype of that vehicle, the FT-EV, was introduced at the 2009 North American International Auto Show. Based on the highly compact platform of the Toyota iQ—the world's smallest four-seat urban city car boasting startling interior space and trailblazing maneuverability—the FT-EV has an estimated range of 80 kilometres on a single-charge, and can be re-charged using a household electrical outlet. Equally powerful, since it uses no fuel it produces zero-emissions. Look for it in a commuter lane near you.
