Why would you want to run a power wire from the battery to the new head unit? The factory wiring will be just fine.

If you really want to try to run a new power wire, here's what I did:

To add to the seal you can get what they call "monkey sh!t". It's basically a grey putty that you use to weather seal openings such as this and can be picked up at any local hardware store.

In some high powred decks you need to run a 10gauge or so power wire from the deck to battery terminal. Of of the panasonic deck had 60wRMS for its internal amp. Pretty impressive but you need to buy a 10 gauge power amp kit to install it.

Which deck was it that had 60 W RMS per channel? I'd be curious to see how they managed to get a power inverter into such a small package.

Instead of the reg. built in amp they use a Class T circuity amp. Class T amp dont really have heat issuse.

Even though it is rated at 60wRMS I wouldnt buy it for $500. You can buy a deck and an external amp for about the same price and will give you a true 60wRMS. I doubt that it is really TRUE 60wRMS maybe 40wRMS or so under reg. conditions.

Looking at the specs I'd say it's what most people would call a 35 W RMS deck - it's rated at 60 W RMS/70 W peak. The limiting factor is not heat, but voltage - you're stuck with 14.4 volts unless you use a power inverter, which tends to use up a lot of space.
