The hose right behind the engine in my 98 sprung a pinhole leak and sprayed small amounts of PS fluid on the engine......thus smoking like a bitch. I thought my fucking car was dieing or something. Took it to a reputable shop and had to pay 280 total, 180 or so was parts :(

My 2002 Singapore spec doesn't have hydraulic power steering (electric module located on the steering column under the dashboard) but in order for you to get help with potential repairs you need to say where you are leaking from. The pump? The rack? A hose? There's no chemical aditive that can truly seal a leak of this kind so prepare to get your hands dirty.

i believe the leak might be caused by a failing gasket, i checked the diagram out in my repair manual. I was just wondering if anyone had a similar problem. I plan to pressure wash the engine bay and watch closely where exactly the leak is coming from.

It's a good thing the latest gen of Corollas don't use hydraulic PS systems. Peugeots have used the rear-mounted exhaust pipes like ours for years and they have been known to have a fire or two when a PS hose breaks and sprays fluid all over the hot exhaust pipes!! <br />

But to answer the question, the hardest thing is to find the leak. I say go with the wash and give an eye. From there you can take it to the next step. Actually fixing it, whether yourself or by a technician.
