    replace rear 6x9 with subs

I had an idea of replacing hte rear 6x9 speakers with 8" subwoofers. I know this would cause more bass over the 6x9s so would it be possible to install 6x9 speakers in the rear door like in the front doors?

I have no idea how difficult it would be to install 6x9's in the rear doors or how difficult it would be to install 8" woofers in the rear, however i do know that mid and high range sound is best when it comes from in front of you (staging) and low end is pretty much non directional and subwoofers can be placed pretty much anywhere. therefore if you put 8" subs in the back, you really shouldnt worry about replacing the 8" subs with other speakers in the rear doors or anything like that unless you feel bad for passengers in the backseat because the high end for them will be blocked out and overpowered by the bass from behind them. The only other reason i can think of for wanting rear speakers is if you are planning on running a 5.1 channel system for movies, because almost all audio is recorded with just 2 channels, and therefore rear and front are the same.

Its pretty common now for people (especially SQ competitors) to only run mid and highs from the front and bass from the back.. Car manufacturers seem to think that "more is better" because thats probably what sells, so you typically see lexus or mercedes selling some "premium 9 speaker sound system" or some crap like that.. It is possible that with good engineering having rear speakers may help some but generally it doesnt. As long as you have a good frontstage you wont be disappointed with ditching your rear 6x9's. If you have the stock speakers up front without the tweater you may want to get some components up there, because they arent very good IMO. Even the 6 speaker set isnt that great.
