Self-installation of speakers w/ stock bracket.

Im getting 6.5's for my car. If i decide to just use the stock bracket and tear out the old speaker, Could i use the factory wiring? And how do u actually mount the speaker onto the stock bracket. These are pioneers by the way. And how do u get that stupid knob off for those with manual windows? thanx a lot

    It'll be challenging...

Getting the window knobs off is actually pretty easy. Use a shop rag or the bottom of your shirt or something and slip the edge under the knob and run it back and forth until the clip can be seen poking out. Pull the clip out and the knob will fall right off.

As for the speaker mounting bracket... the front speakers are held in place not with screws or bolts, but with rivets(!). I've never tried messing with them and have no advice for how to work with those.

    Good luck.

There is no stock bracket. The stock speaker is an odd sized triangular shaped speaker. Some people have just ripped the guts out of the speakers and screwed the new speakers into the shell of the old speakers. I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. The new speakers will fall out sooner or later.

You're better off removing the stock speakers by drilling out the rivets that hold them in place and making an adapter out of MDF:

Stupid Toyota. WHy do they have to make the front speakers so hard to install? I was thinking about changing that out one day too.

I notice that the Corolla doesn't get good sound quality from its speakers, but when I drove a Neon, or any of the GM cars, damn, their sound system is awesome. The base roars at regular setting. Crank it down more, and the whole car vibrates. WHat's up with the cheap speakers and sound system?
