    stock alarms can kiss my...patootie

soo i decidedly hate stock alarms...mine felt like wigging out last night. all. night. long.

i'm going to have it removed, but i want SOMETHING to replace it. i'd rather have one of the nifty alarms with the two way remote...but i really don't know much about alarms aside from what brands are good.

money isn't a HUGE issue, aside from avoiding something astronomically expensive...so tell me what's good. i'd like to stay between spending $150 and $300 for the unit(not incl install). i know the Viper/DEI version with the blue remote(i don't know the stock number) is pretty good, but i want more choices.

heh...anyone care to help me out here?

I say get the viper or compustar. I found both for about 200 on ebay. IF I had to choose, Compustar all the way.

well, they repaired my current alarm. turns out my driver seat - which was installed by "the" ex - was screwed in THROUGH the wiring harness.

*sighs* so much for xmas gifts :(

only problem with compustar is that if you buy it off of ebay, it will void the warrenty on the brain. I read about how some guy went the ebay way and installed the thing..thinking he had a warrenty on the brain, he called up telling them his problem and they wouldn't even talk to him cause of the voided warrenty. I have CompuStar and it is good..I have no complaints so far. Also CompuStar is (from my research and thru recommendations) one of the top alarms with autostarters that can be used with stick shift cars. I paid 550 installed for the 2SS series. And the 2 way pager goes 1.25miles before you lose a signal…however they wanted 900 for the alarm with the autostart! I was like NOPE! So I got it without the autostart…

CompuStar is expensive..however it does come with things that are considered &quot;extras&quot; on some other alarms. When I was shopping around, one guy wanted to sell me the Viper (forgot the model but it was a top end model) and he said 500 installed. but if i wanted the hood sensor, trunk sensor, and some other stuff, it would of cost me 200-300 more. the CompuStar came with the hood sensor and everything else that other guy was trying to sell me. <br />

but alot of shops don't carry CompuStar cause its too expensive....

find out from some of the authorized dealers on how much it would cost. Maybe another shop will have it for a cheaper price.

Wow those are expensive alarms. I'm getting my mom a remote starter and alarm for 220 with installation. Or i can go to another shop and get remote starter for 220 and if i want i can get a alarm with it too for 450 wit installation and the remote will be an lcd screen.

Adding additional sensors to an alarm once the main unit is installed is very easy to do. I basically paid someone to install my Viper, then installed the other sensors myself afterwards.

and there is cheaper out there. But from my research, CompuStar is an expensive brand. But the way I think is "You pay for what you get".
