tachometer help

    tachometer help

    this has prob been asked b/f, but how hard is it to install one of these? i really want one for my 96 4afe, but im afraid i might get stuck tryin to install one of them-even though it comes w/ instructions...any diy's around w/ pictures? thanks!

    Well I know the one I heped put in was 4 wires. But I only connect the 12V and the chassis ground. My friend did the other 2.

    basically 3 wires: +12, Grd, Tach Sig..
    [edit} 4th wire is probably illumination..

    all the wires you need to tap into are in the gauge cluster's harnesses
    to me its super easy..

    I didnt do anything in the cluster. Here's what I did, works really well:
    Power: I dont know what the connector is for, but its right behind the left hand vent, its right next to the dimmer switch, probably some option i dont have. But get a multimeter and one of the wires on the corner of that is a good power source.
    Ground: Find a bolt, best one is probably right behind left hand vent
    Illumination: Right side wire on your dimmer switch
    Tach Signal: Black/Red Wire, I think, coming off the distributor.
