Here's a car that will hit the right note at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show! These are the first official pictures of the Nissan Note, the firm's all-new challenger in the compact MPV sector.

Described as a five-door family car for driving enthusiasts, it will be aimed at busy parents on a limited budget. Prices are not confirmed, but insiders have revealed it will start at around £10,000. The Note is part of Nissan's three-car plan to replace the Almera hatch. Also on the way is the Qashqai SUV, plus a sporty coupé.

Built on the same platform as the Renault Modus - and bearing more than a passing resemblance to it - the Note features neat design

touches, including Micra-style headlamps and vertical tail-lights. The rakish lines up front help give the car a sporty edge. Inside, the design team has focused on practicality, with plenty of cabin space and a number of storage bins. Full details of the interior won't be unveiled until its debut, but the Note will have folding rear seats built on a sliding bench to maximise comfort and space.

The new Nissan hits showrooms in spring next year, and will be available with four engine options. Petrol fans have the choice of 1.4-litre 88bhp and 1.6-litre 110bhp units, while 68bhp and 86bhp versions of the company's 1.5-litre diesel will also be offered.
