    Thought I broke my car

Well I have no Idea what happened but I just knew I broke an axle, or sometime yesterday. I was with my boy and his Girl was bitching, and well decided to cut into me. I stayed calm and didn't go off, but she kept on. finally I said, "Dude, I am going to go" So she looks at me with this Smartass smile and says " Yeah I would be nice if we could talk ALONE" For some odd reason that triped my mad meter and I jumped in the car and reversed out fast, and bliped the clutch to churp the tires, well it didn't go CHIRPPP, it jerked HARD and went BBBOOOOMMMM. Still mad I put it in first and sped away, double clutched it and it spun for a split second and went BBBOOOMMM. I head to the store to calm down, and realize what just happend. I slow down and drive normal to see if the car is doing anything weird. pull in the gas station and look at my axles, Both are fine, I don't smell anyclutch, or any thing odd, no leaks, all is well, take it out on the road, and take it through the pases hit the interstate. All is well. it's been a day and she is fine. I know what I did was Stupid, but damn I KNEW I broke an axle, that's what it felt like, but nothing is broke, unless I lared the hell out of the tranny or something.

You cannot break an axle so easily. Toyotas are built very tough.

After my clutch breakin period, it still occasionally 'clunked' on a hard shift..doesn't do it anymore, though.

    Don't doubleclutch an upshift!

hehe i've done that ' BOOM ' thing a couple times... scared the hell out of me. Still to this day don't know EXACTLY what it was - however it coulda been the motor/trans bottoming out on the support bar from too much torque. :)

actually, now that i think of it, i know what you're talking about. i've shifted into drive twice when i was still drifting backwards (very slowly, didn't come to a complete stop after backing out) and it made that noise. happened a long time ago, and my car is still fine so you should be ok

maybe it was just your engine backfiring? if you broke an axle, your car won't move at all. that boom sound could sometimes be from your wheel/tire. when you get wheel spin and all of a sudden the tires grab... you would feel this loud sound as if something broke. that's all i can think of.
happen to me a few times when i drive over railroad track that's wet. my tires would loose traction on the track as i accelerate and then i would feel this sharp jerk as if something broke when my tires gets traction. kind hard to explain. :)

sometimes it could be also when u tried to shift and you didnt push your clutch all the way in and you grabbed the stick - kind forcing it out of gear - u get this loud clunk.
